Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is characterized by persistent airflow limitation that is usually progressive and associated with enhance chronic inflammatory response in the airways and the lung to noxious particles or gases. It is a significant public health problem globally, being the second leading cause of death.
A systematic analysis of GDB 2019 ranked Nepal as one of the top countries with highest age-standardized disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) rates due to COPD. With a high level of indoor and outdoor air pollution and consistently high number of smokers, COPD and its related morbidity and mortality is increasing.
